Entertainment in Vancouver

Vancouver is packed with places to spend your evenings regardless of what you consider a good night out. For those of you who wish to dance the night away, you’ve certainly come to the right place. There are numerous nightclubs in Vancouver and most of them are located in a small number of areas which is useful if you don’t get in to the first or second one you try, or if you do get in and it’s not exactly what you thought it would be. Also, if you opt to try out one of the more popular clubs in the city, bear in mind that you do need to be there at about 7.00pm in order to guarantee your place in the queue. And, it is also worth noting that the city has a large amount of members-only clubs so it is worth checking this out before you go.

Most entertainment information can be found in The Georgia Straight a free weekly paper with up to date information on all the big venues in the city. You will also find entertainment news in the Thursday edition of most of the daily newspapers.

The main areas that take off after sunset are all situated in the downtown region of the city and include Gastwon, Yaletown and in and around Granville Street. Vancouver’s gay district is largely located in the Davie village which is west off Granville Street. And, once you make it to these particular parts of the city you can take your pick from the multitude of different forms of entertainment on offer. Clubs playing anything from the sixties to the present day, karaoke bars, live music venues – jazz is huge in Vancouver-, blues bars, comedy theatres, drag shows, classical performances, break dancing exhibitions and anything else you can think off can be located with very little effort. Just follow the crowds.

There are also a number of excellent cinema complexes located throughout the city. And, for those of you who like to keep up to date with the latest releases, the fact that Canada is so close to the US means that you will get to see movies which might not be available in your home country for quite some time - always a good talking point when you run out of holiday tales.
